From the President
a very successful and outstanding weekend of fun and business. The accommodations, food, and activities were just outstanding. Among the events immensely enjoyed were the tour to Amelia Island, golfing at NAS Jax, visit of the Historical Center at the RSS, and the Saturday night banquet which featured CAPT Joe Hinson, CO, NMCB14, as speaker and the performance by the Vintage Players. The silent auction was also a success. I would like to thank all who provided items for the Silent Auction. I personally would like to thank the Reunion Committee for all the hard work that was put forth to make the Reunion a success. Mark your calendars for the 2010 Reunion in Savannah, Georgia at the Hilton Garden Inn Midtown on 4 to 7 November 2010. A reunion package will be out in early summer. During the Board of Directors meeting, three new board members were elected to replace the three rolling off. They were Don Bridges, Randy Felton, and Al Robertson. The 2009 Officers were unanimously re-elected to serve another year. I would like to thank those directors who rolled off (Ken Erickson, Neil Orange, and Tom Williams) for their outstanding contribution during the organizing years of the association. I’m sure they will continue to aid us in the future. The Board established a Ways and Means Committee to be headed up by Bob Rehkopf. This committee will come up with ways to increase our funds and membership. The Board also approved making Associate Members able to have life memberships. As a year has now gone by since taking office, we have made great strides in improving communication within and outside our organization by introducing and publishing newsletters, mailings by both e-mail and snail mail, having several conference calls, and having three Board of Directors meetings. Through this communication effort we have not only been able to improve our day to day operations, but also better convey information to you, the members and potential members. This year we will place our emphasis on increasing membership and aiding the families of the KIAs and WIAs. We authorized a gift card to be sent to these families during the holiday season along with a letter introducing our organization and our mission. This was our first official act of aid to the families and hope it will open the door to future needs. We need all of your support and ask that you become members of your alumni group.
